I currently have malaria. It's very ironic because I will be working on a malaria project in a few months. I think there's a reason behind my falling sick now. I think it's to remind me how important and necessary the malaria project will be in community.

Having suffered from malaria gives one a first hand experience of the nature of the disease. Malaria is our number ONE enemy in the tropics. Tragically, the long rains are on and what is to follow shorty is a period of high transmission. Just like Mona, many people will sustain infectious bites, hospital cases are expected to increase and the tragedy is that it is equally the time to experience stock out with the antimalarials.
ReplyDeleteWhat then, we need maximum protection from mosquitoes at such a time. If it be a bed net,use it always, avoid nigh outdoor activities that may leave you more exposed and seek medical attention immediately the first signs present themselves. Keep away mosquitoes, keep safe, keep healthy.

ReplyDeleteGet well soon Mona. My wife is a nurse at Aga Khan and she tells me that the malaria she comes across is always from people who had traveled outside Nairobi. This means that Nairobi mosquitoes are harmless. I'm 36 and have never had malaria. Neither have my parents and siblings. My wife did get it more than a decade ago though as a student in Maua.
